A hiker-built, off-grid spot in Catawba Valley — one mile from the Dragon's Tooth trailhead.

A quick trail update: Locomotive broke her kneecap on June 15th, so we're keeping things small while she heals. Hikers can still camp and shower with us — weekends only, limited resources — until she's back on her feet. Reach out and we'll take care of you.

Built by Hand, One Project at a Time

We're making the place we always wished was on the trail.

No corporate campground. No chain motel. Just a quiet patch of Catawba Valley, an outdoor shower under the trees, and two thru-hikers who know exactly what a tired hiker wants at the end of a long day. The dome cabins and bunkhouse are still coming. The land is already special — and the trail is already calling.

Future reservations closed

We are building the next places to stay.

Three supplied 10 × 14 glamping tents on wooden platforms and two dome cabins are planned for spring 2027. Online reservations and card payment are not open yet while the booking system, final rates, policies, and opening date are being completed. The current BYO tent request form remains available below.

Planned Hiker Crash Pad

Walk in. Rest easy. A simple place for AT hikers and ALDHA members arriving on foot to drop a pack and breathe for a while.

We expect the main Crash Pad area to be along the creek beside the ponds, about 250 feet uphill from the planned dome cabins, giving dome guests room to breathe.

Furnished glamping sits at the top of the hill. The wide flat path gives the two areas some breathing room, and the main front lawn may work too if it calls your name.

Come in gently, keep the creek, ponds, and hillside peaceful, and leave the place quiet and clean.

Still growing and not open just yet. If you are curious, send a question and we will keep you posted.

House Rules

Guest Guidelines

We want everyone to relax, recharge, and enjoy their stay. Keep these simple things in mind.

01

Parking

Park neatly in designated areas only.

02

Wellness Environment

A calm, relaxing atmosphere is our focus. Alcohol isn't permitted on the property. Cannabis use (where legal) is welcome outdoors if done respectfully. No smoking of any kind — tobacco or cannabis — inside any structure.

03

Firearms & Trail Knives

Firearms aren't permitted here. Trail knives are fine, including the larger survival-style ones some hikers carry, but keep the bigger ones inside your pack around camp so everyone can relax. Thank you. 🙏

04

Dogs Welcome

Friendly dogs are welcome but must stay under control at all times. Not everyone is comfortable around dogs, and even a playful pup can cause anxiety.

05

Clean Up After Pets

Please pick up after your dog — no exceptions.

06

Respect Others

Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Simply put: don't be a dick.

07

Clean Up After Yourself

Leave shared spaces as you found them.

08

Quiet Hours

Be mindful of noise, especially in the evenings and early mornings.

09

Fires & Safety

Only use designated fire areas and follow any posted safety guidance.

10

Children

Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

11

Wildlife & the Outdoors

Keep food secured and dispose of trash properly. Be aware of wildlife (bears, snakes, ticks) in the surrounding area.

12

Use at Your Own Risk

Use of the property, trails, fire pits, and all amenities is at your own risk. Please report hazards or concerns to your host.

13

Damages

Guests are responsible for any damages caused during their stay.

Thanks for helping keep Dragon's Tooth a laid-back, welcoming spot for everyone.

The People Behind It

Locomotive & Thumper

We're Monika and John — Locomotive and Thumper — and we met on trail before we ever met in person. Both of us hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019, started two days apart, knew all the same hikers, and somehow never crossed paths until a spring about thirty miles north of Cascade Locks, on the morning of July 21st.

We didn't hike together after that morning. But we kept running into each other in trail towns the rest of the way, and, well — the rest is history.

We hiked the Appalachian Trail together after that, then the Continental Divide Trail in 2023. We actually bought this land mid-CDT — John doing the closing paperwork while bouncing in and out of trail towns, pack still on his back. Triple Crowners twice over, building the place we always wished was waiting at the end of a hard day.

There's a song about that morning "Pink Plaid & Pigtails"

Thirty miles south of Cascade Locks. July twenty-first. And the morning gave us everything.
